Please Don't Play the Piano

Written 2003, recorded January 2010. Simplicity can be a good thing, which is why the basic instrumentation on this is just acoustic guitar and vocal. I added a backing vocal to a couple of the verses in May 2010, but I was never happy with it so it was re-recorded in January 2012. At the same time I added a tambourine in the background. Best bit: It's a classical love ballad that manages to pack countless musical clichés into it - an achievement in itself. Worst bit: As usual, I'm not happy with the vocals.

Please Don't Play the Piano

Please don't play the piano, it reminds me of my love
the one who tore the heavens down and lit the stars above
Please don't play the piano 'cuz no matter how I try
I never could forget him, that special piano guy

He used to play and sing to me, his voice was sweet and clear
I always felt much more alive whenever he was near
So please don't play the piano, it reminds me of his voice
of how we said goodbye that day, of how he made his choice

He was my only sunshine, he made my day so bright
and when he sometimes smiled to me my heart was filled with light
So please don't play the piano, it reminds me of his smile
reminds me of the happiness I had for just a while

And in his eyes I saw the things I'd needed for so long
I saw the beauty of his soul in every little song
So please don't play the piano, it reminds me of his eyes
that looked so deep into my heart when we said our goodbyes

Na na na...

Please don't play the piano, it reminds me of my love
the one who tore the heavens down and lit the stars so high above
Please don't play the piano 'cuz no matter how I try
I never could forget him, that special piano guy
