Shiny Girl

Written 2002, recorded October 2009. This is a piano-driven tune with mock-goth lyrics - and a sly nod to Type O Negative. I've recorded the transposed version (suits my vocal range better) with piano, synth, vocal, electric guitar and my wee dream chime - just because I have it. I was going for "haunted" in true goth style.

Best bit: The piano intro is good, but I love the sound of the guitar. Worst bit: The vocal is sketchy in places - despite this, people who heard the initial mix asked me to mix up the vocal (personally I don't really like it this loud). But the worst thing is the synth. There was a delay on the synth which made it near impossible to record even remotely in time, and to make matters worse, with my setup I can't actually hear the keyboard while I record it. If I ever get a different setup, I'll probably re-record the synth.

Shiny Girl

Sometimes I search through the streets at night
searching for you outside
Sometimes I run through the rainy wasteland
trying to find what I lost

You, little shiny girl
your laughter is inside me yet
you, my pearl
you're still in my head

Sometimes I roam among the black wolves
trying to find my way home
Sometimes the burning leaves break through the dark
and it smells like you

Sometimes I fall into the mirror
silent for all that time
Sometimes the screaming voices tear through my dreams
and you ask me why
